Where to Stay in Surigao City – Le Chard Place Bed and Breakfast

At Day Zero of our Siargao excursion, my friends and I spent a night in Surigao City and crashed at Le Chard Place Bed and Breakfast for a much-needed respite from the grueling 15-hour land trip.

image

Fronting the highway, Le Chard Place Bed and Breakfast is really hard to miss. It is conveniently located near the bus terminal and the airport. Also, it is only a short stroll away from Gaisano Capital, a local shopping mall.

image

This budget hotel has a sleek, contemporary aesthetic design. The vibrant accent colors add a fun, casual feel to the space.

Le Chard Place Bed and Breakfast is kept spotlessly clean and the hallway leading to our room is quiet.

image

We booked their suite room and amenities include TV, hot shower and fridge. Since we were given the smallest suite room, ours didn’t come with a lounge area and fridge as shown in the photo above. But we had access to their WiFi which they said is supposedly accessible at the reception area only. Awesome trade-off is awesome.

Le Chard Place Bed and Breakfast is a great place to stay. We slept comfortably and felt very safe during our stay. It is a reasonably priced accommodation with friendly and helpful staff. Because of its strategic location, places near or far are easily accessible and transportation is not a problem even during ungodly hours.

EXPENSES
Suite room without breakfast – 1400 PHP
Extra bed – 330 PHP

Moon Fools Hostel

There are dozens upon dozens of hotels and resorts to choose from in Bohol – particularly in Tagbilaran and Panglao. However, most of these are catered to affluent tourists and if you’re a glampacker like I am, finding a place to stay that is comfortable yet affordable at the same time can be a trying task. But luckily, while I was perusing the bowels of the Internet, I found Moon Fools Hostel.

Moon Fools Hostel is a newly-opened bed and breakfast located in Brgy. Tawala, Panglao Island. Only a walk away from Alona Beach, it is surrounded by restaurants, convenience stores, travel agencies, rental shops and many more.

image

This industrially themed hostel prides itself as a clean, friendly budget hostel that is committed to making conscious efforts to be eco-friendly.

image

They also take pride in having supported homegrown artists by commissioning one-of-a-kind handcrafted wooden key chains.

image

Moon Fools Hostel has 2 dorm rooms, 3 matchbox rooms and 2 private rooms all with great air conditioning and free access to WiFi.

TIP:
Book your accommodation in advance. Since the number of rooms is limited, they are usually fully booked.

image

I stayed in one of their dorm rooms for only 400/night (introductory price) and was offered a complimentary continental breakfast.

image

They have gender-segregated communal shower rooms and lavatories too.

Currently, some facilities are unavailable such as hot shower, public kitchen and lounge area. Other rooms were unavailable as well when I was there since they are still undergoing minor renovations. I honestly was a little disappointed when I realized that the photos on their website are only artistically rendered images. But it does look very promising.

It is also worth mentioning that Moon Fools Hostel sits right above a bar that blasts loud music until 2 in the morning so expect a rough night if you’re an early sleeper.
EDIT: They just installed soundproof windows!

That being said, Moon Fools Hostel is heaven sent for young travelers on a budget. The place is clean, safe and comfortable. With a very strategic location at a competitive price, I’ll surely go back there when in Bohol.

M Citi Suites – Budget Hotel in Cebu

When traveling to Cebu on a budget, I recommend staying at M Citi Suites.

image

Strategically located at J. Llorente Street, Capitol Site (near the intersection with Don Gil Garcia Street), it is only a stone’s throw away from Robinsons Cybergate, Fuente Osmeña Circle, Chong Hua hospital and among other shops and restaurants.

On top of that, it is only about 30 to 45 minutes away from the Mactan Airport.

image

Rates are reasonable and the staff are friendly and helpful.

When we entered our room…

image

I was surprised to see two hats already sitting on the bed…

image

Upon closer inspection, attached on one of the hats was a hand-written note from M Citi Suite’s management and staff. Very sweet and thoughtful!

image

Just my sister and I trying the hats on.

image

I’m not of a TV person… But if that’s your thing, they do have cable TV with number of channels to choose from.

image

Apart from air-conditioning, there are two main amenities that I look for when staying in a hotel: Hot and Cold shower and WiFi.

image

Thankfully, they got that covered. There’s me trying to fit in one of their cabinets (because I can and might have been cat in my past life) whilst trying to type in their WiFi password so I can be connected through my phone.

It is also worth noting that their housekeeping service is very discreet, reliable…

image

And artistic too!

image

Look at how cute and glorious the fresh towels look! We couldn’t resist taking photos of it.

image

They also have their very own restaurant called Mmm Cafe which operates around the clock.

image

Complimentary breakfast is served from 6AM to 10AM (please forgive my fugly I-just-woke-up face). And of course they serve lunch and dinner as well.

Clean, modern and comfortable are three words that would describe M Citi Suites best. I would definitely stay there again when in Cebu. It’s like home away from home.

Thank you M Citi Suites for making our stay a memorable one! For more information about their rates and amenities, you can check on their website or click here
