Cuteness Overload with Happy Pao

Cute, lovable animal-shaped steamed buns isn’t something new. Yet, I’m surprised how it didn’t really catch on any sooner here in the Philippines as it is very popular in other Asian countries such as Hong Kong, Japan and Thailand.

But thankfully, Chowking has finally jumped on the bandwagon!

image

As soon as Happy Pao was launched, Instagram was on fire! These selfie-worthy treats were very hard to get a hold of considering they sell out faster than One Direction concert tickets. Haha!

image

When we finally got our hands on the elusive Happy Pao, it seemed like the heavens opened up and all the angels sang a beautiful song just for us.

However, I am grossly disappointed that Chowking Iligan branches do not serve Piggy Happy Pao.

Yes, I understand that they are doing this because of “religious and cultural sensitivity”. But what’s puzzling is that they serve meals that contain pork anyway. So, I don’t get it.

image

Disclaimer: This cute steamed bun does not contain any real pandas.

image

Panda Happy Pao is a sweet steamed bun bursting with velvety, smooth chocolaty goodness. Although it is served hot, I prefer to take it home with me and chill it in the fridge for a few minutes before eating it.

image

Happy Pao isn’t only yummy, it’s very affordable too! Get these adorable buns for only 39 PHP ala carte, 49 PHP with a drink and 117 PHP for a box of three. Happiness guaranteed! 😉

My Rainbow Unicorn Sugar Fantasy Party at Cozy Cup

Guess who just had a birthday?

image

Yes. That’s right, I did! 🙂

image

And I am now officially a quarter-of-a-century old! Can you believe it?

It’s funny how I’ve managed to keep my birthday a secret for so many years now that even my closest friends don’t know when it is anymore. Haha! But as much as I wanted it to remain that way, I reckoned that not a lot of people are promised to reach this far in life and so it must be celebrated!

For months, I’ve been secretly planning my birthday on Pinterest… And in the process of doing so, I found myself pinning everything rainbows, unicorns and sugary stuff.

image

The only place that came to mind where I wanted to spend my birthday was at Cozy Cup

Because:
1. I love milk tea. And I know most of my friends do.
2. The size of their shop is perfect for an intimate birthday party.
3. The place is perfect for photo ops!

I wanna thank Anjo for bringing my birthday vision to life. She definitely went above and beyond of what was expected.

image

Aside from decors, she provided mason jars in place of plastic cups for our milk tea. Not only did it look cute for photos, it was eco-friendly too!

image

She also provided jelly beans for giveaways…

image

And a birthday cake sparkler! It’s like she read my mind! The photo above is grabbed from Instagram.

image

This gorgeous kek is the best birthday cake I’ve had so far! I’m still very much obsessed with it! You can order this from Tedts’ Diner

image

My cute unicorn cupcakes are also from Tedts’ Diner. Thank you Ate Tetet for throwing them in pro bono! You always make the cutest pastries! #proudambassador

image

I also ordered a bunch of colorful marshmallow pops from Miwoos because I know my boyfran luffs dem marshies. Thanks Milou for going out of your way to personally deliver them to me at Cozy Cup!

image

And last but definitely not the least, I got about three dozens of adorable rainbow sugar cookies from Choux. Nica did an incredible job with the sugar cookies and packaging. So impressed!

image

Yes, it was a sugar-laden birthday party and guests had to be immune to diebeetus to enjoy all the delicious cavity-inducing, Instagram-worthy goodies.

image

I’m elated to share this milestone with people who I’ve literally known for ages (some of them I’m friends with for about two decades now) and I feel so blessed to still have these people in my life. Glad they showed up. My birthday wouldn’t have been fun without them.

And as much as I also wanted to share this momentous event with all my “bestest” friends (Gikgik, Ellen, Epi, Denny, Rosa, Dee, Nicholle, Ritz, Jade, Kara and Beajai–I miss you all so bad it hurts), they no longer reside in Iligan.

image

I must thank my boyfran for helping me make this dream rainbow birthday bash possible. He is so awesome in many, many ways.

image

And of course, I thank God for adding another year to my life. This is the best birthday I’ve ever had! Laus Deo!

I’m wrapping up this post with a montage made by the best boyfriend in the weeerlddd.

Davao-Gensan Trip Part 9: Swiss Deli and Restaurant

Just a walking distance from SM Lanang, we decided to take peek inside Swiss Deli and Restaurant.

image

Swiss Deli and Restaurant is simply the best source for delicious and authentic European food in Davao. They really have a LOT to offer. And when I say a lot, I mean…

image

They have a plethora of meat and cheeses to choose from. Varieties that I used to only see on cooking shows are here! All imported from Switzerland and Europe (most of them I can’t even spell HAHA).

image

Check out their shelf full of quality wine imported from different countries across the globe. They have more at the cellar. I regret to say that we weren’t able to take a look there.

image

They also have freshly baked bread and pastry up for grabs and a fridge full of desserts that I didn’t manage to get a photo of.

image

Some more choices of everything delicatessen

image

And at this point I was just foaming in my mouth already. Chocolates, spreads, condiments… I could just go on and on and on! All the grocery items I have long lusted for… Were just right there in front of me. I felt so helpless that we couldn’t afford to purchase all of them. But we were not there to shop (trying not to sour grape here).

image

I really love their service. The wait staff were very professional and attentive.

image

I ordered Mediterranean Salad with penne (cooked al dente of course), lettuce leaves, onion, olives, tuna, tomatoes and cucumber tossed with vinaigrette. Simple, fresh and delicious!

image

My boyfriend ordered Veal Bratwurst Sausage with some mashed potatoes and veggies on the side. It was our first time to have veal so I really like how we were able to really taste the meat. No extenders. Just pure veal goodness. Never had sausage that good in my life! The best, really.

image

And for our dessert, we had Chocolate Mousse. Light, fluffy and had just the right amount of sweetness. A really nice treat to conclude our snack. Yes, not meal. Snack. HAHA. This was after CBTL. We’re such pigs, I know.

Serving world-class delectable meals at reasonable prices, Swiss Deli has impressed me on so many levels. Needless to say, we had a fantastic dining experience.

They’re open daily from 8AM to 10PM.
You can view or download their menu here

Davao-Gensan Trip Part 4: Dinner at Tsuru Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar

Tsuru Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar is the longest running Japanese Restaurant in Davao. It is actually named after Japan’s sacred bird which is revered as a symbol of happiness, longevity, loyalty and good luck.

Luckily for us, Tsuru’s literally just a few steps away from where we were staying… And without even thinking, we just walked ourselves right in for dinner.

I don’t know about you but my boyfriend and I LOOOVE Japanese cuisine. If you’ve been following me for quite awhile already, I think that should be very obvious by now.

image

Located along J. Camus street, it’s just right across the entrance of People’s Park so it’s pretty hard to miss. It shares the same building with a Vietnamese restaurant named Hanoi.

image

Oh look, a minion! I kid. The interior design of the restaurant is traditional Japanese with a contemporary flair.

image

The cozy ambiance of the restaurant makes it so hard to not feel at home. And I must mention that the wait staff here are courteous and attentive and the service is very good and prompt.

Okay, food porn abruptly starts now.

image

For our appetizer we had Beef Ramen which was topped with nori (seaweed) shreds, slivers of green onion, naruto fish cake (the one with the pink swirl) and a few slices of beef.

Though I was slightly disappointed because I did not find soft-boiled eggs in our ramen (come on eggs don’t cost much and we paid good money for this) and the beef slices were a bit tough… But the soup itself was rich and flavorful that I completely forgot about all that. This probably has to be the best ramen I’ve tried to date (flavor wise)!

As for our main dish…

image

I believe we had what’s called Chirashi (I’m sorry we lost our receipt so I’m not really sure). But basically it’s an assortment of sashimi arranged artistically on top of a bowl of sushi rice.

It has ebi (shrimp), tamagoyaki (omelette), kamaboko kani (imitation crab meat), maguro (tuna), ika (squid) and some other fish meat (that I can no longer identify) as well.

All I can say is… It is DIVINE! I could eat bowls of this in one sitting. Sweet and fresh… Oh, I wish I can fully describe in words just how delicious this dish is! Two thumbs up! That’s all I can say.

image

And to end this dinner with a bang, we had Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream for dessert. Creamy and succulent… UGH. I wish I have gallons of this sitting in my freezer. I hope I won’t have nightmares about this ice cream tonight.

I highly recommend everyone to check this restaurant out. Price ranges from 200~300 pesos. And just so you know… Every 15th and 30th of the month, Tsuru offers an eat-all-you-can grand buffet. I’m having a headache just thinking about it. *sigh*

image

Oh well, I gotta go. Writing this post has made me hungry. Bye for now!

24 & 2 Part 3: T.G.I. Fridays

T.G.I. Fridays, a.k.a. Friday’s, has finally come to CDO!

image

I know I’m a little too late on this announcement but better late than never right?

image

Upon finding our seat, I was amused! Here’s le boyfriend with our special guests, Buzz and Woody who joined us for dinner that night.

image

Hanging right above my seat are two real guitars. And there’s Bruce, the Legend (as Kato) and Bruce, the shark from JawsReal awesome.

Anyway, for our appetizer, we had Cajun Chicken Salad.

image

Crispy fried Cajun-battered chicken strips served with tomato, egg wedges, grated cheese and some mixed greens coated with honey mustard dressing

I’d have to say that the chicken somehow tastes very similar to KFC’s. Not that it’s a bad thing, I do really love KFC myself.

I love everything in this salad especially the tomatoes (sorry chicken you’re not the star here for me haha). They’re fresh, juicy and sweet. I could seriously eat a bowl of those tomatoes.

And lemme tell ya, this is one HEFTY appetizer and is practically a meal in itself. I was starting to feel stuffed eating just halfway through this salad

And as if that wasn’t enough, my boyfriend had to order Mushroom Onion Swiss Burger.

image

Juicy pure ground beef patty topped with tomato, lettuce, pickles, caramelized onions, melted Swiss cheese and thick toasted buns. Served with some crispy fries.

I liked it and it is very good but I’ve had better burgers than this albeit just smaller in size.

By the way, have you ever wondered how to eat a monster of a burger without spilling all over the place? Well, here’s the trick… Grip it tight and turn it upside down!

image

Yup, you read that right. Try it for yourself and be amazed!

image

Excuse me while I give this burger a kiss.

Since we had a coupon for a free Mocha Mud Pie, we just had to have it even if we were about to burst at this point.

image

As written on their menu, it’s rich chocolate-almond mousse and coffee ice cream frozen in a chocolate crumb crust. Topped with hot fudge and toasted almond slices.

We loved it. It’s not too sweet and it reminds me of one of my favorite desserts, Death by Choco. Too bad we weren’t able to finish it all up. Much to our displeasure.

I heard their steaks and ribs are very good but we’ll reserve those for another time.

24 & 2 Part 1: Little Miss Funnel Cake

How ya’ll been doing? I hope everyone enjoyed the summer. As for me, I am still in disbelief that May is almost drawing to a close because I don’t want it to end. So far, this month has been the greatest! I just turned 24 and my boyfriend and I just turned 2. All is good super awesome!

And in celebration of my 24th birthday and our 2nd year anniversary, we went to CDO for a food trip and first on our itinerary was Little Miss Funnel Cake.

image

Little Miss Funnel Cake is a cozy dessert shop located at AB Santiago Building, Velez and Gaerlan Streets.

As the name suggests, they are known for their funnel cakes. Frankly, I had no idea what a funnel cake was and so I did my homework… And it’s actually just batter poured through a funnel and deep-fried onto hot cooking oil until it turns golden brown. I learned that by watching this cooking video right here.

I’m all about good food at great prices…

image

So this is the place to be! Nothing above 70 pesos! Ridiculous.

image

Mango Caramel Funnel Cake and Deep-fried Oreos were calling my name so that’s what we both had.

I really like watching how my food is made 🙂

image

Oh, did I mention that I dyed my hair pink? What do you guys think? 🙂
I digress.

Now to the delicious part of the post…

image

Mango caramel funnel cake, topped with tidbits of fresh mango, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a sprinkle of powdered sugar and a drizzle of caramel syrup. Although I do wish I had a bigger scoop of ice cream but it doesn’t matter… T’was gooood.

image

Deep-fried Oreos, also topped with powdered sugar and a scoop of vanilla ice cream then drizzled with some chocolate syrup. Now I know these deep-fried Oreos look rather unappealing in this photo as the ice cream has already melted into a sticky soup here… But I swear that it is an artery-clogging treat that you should not miss!

While I would not want to have these everyday myself for health concerns but they’re really good to have every once-in-awhile.

I highly recommend that you visit Little Miss Funnel Cake and try these goodies especially the deep-fried Oreos! And I guarantee you that you will not regret it!

Let Sprockets Cafe Color Your World

In two separate occasions, I invited my friends and family to a restaurant that my friend Rachel owns…

image

Introducing Sprockets Cafea colorful restaurant that exudes fun, creativity and positive vibes in Cebu City!
I can’t think of a better place to just chill and camwhore all day.

Seriously, no Sprockets trip is ever complete without an obligatory photo op with the rainbow lomo wall, camera cardboard menus and pillows!

image

L to R: Ferocious Brent, Bombshell Erica, Quirky me, Drop-dead gorgeous Rachel

image

Oh hello there, Gluttony. Nice to see you again.

By the way, I accidentally spilled my wintermelon tea so… Let’s just rave about their food, shall we?

image

Moby Fish and Chips. Don’t belittle this seemingly simple dish. I enjoyed it very much! And yes, the dips do go very well with both the fish and fries.

image

Crispy, crunchy nachos topped with savory salsa. I swear I could finish a bucket of this deliciousness. Yum yum yum!

image

Fettupasta in Pesto Cream. One word: NOMS. Pesto cream sauce is, well, creamy and the pasta is al dente. *finger kiss*

image

Oreo Crepe on the house! Crepe topped with a dollop of vanilla ice cream and then drizzled with caramel and crushed Oreo cookies. There is nothing else I can say except that this is, by far, the best dessert I’ve put in my mouth! ‘Twas gone in a flash!

I am a self-proclaimed certified Sprocketeer and I highly recommend that you try any of the dishes I mentioned above. I promise you’ll thank me!

*My boyfriend took the first photo

Bag of Beans Coffee Shop, Restaurant and Bakery

After our lunch at Hellenic Tavern Hotel, we took a jeepney and headed straight down to Bag of Beans to find out why there’s so much rave about it…

And when we got there, just judging it by its quaint entrance, I knew I was going to love the place right off the bat.

They have a shelf chockful of excellent quality coffee beans and some delicious pastry goodies.

If you can afford to try their expensive and globally-famous Coffee Alamid, I suggest that you give it a go. I heard this unique coffee blend has a sweet and dark chocolatey taste to it and it’s the best one they have.

My boyfriend and I decided to have our coffee at the balcony (you too can read what’s on their menu here)…

Overlooking at their beautiful lush garden below.

Get it while it’s hot 😉

Chocolate mousse for dessert. It was gooooddddd.

Clearly, my boyfriend enjoyed his mug o’ coffee very much!

I say that no Tagaytay trip is ever complete without making a stop at Bag of Beans. Its cozy and homey atmosphere is the perfect place to retreat over coffee and dessert on a chilly afternoon. Located just along Aguinaldo Highway near the Mendez intersection, I promise, you wouldn’t miss it!

Gelato by Missy Bonbon

Whenever I go to Cagayan de Oro, I make sure to grab one of my ultimate guilty pleasures in life and that is Missy Bonbon’s freshly churned gelato!

Just look at all those sinful choices! I can hear them singing my name. If you feel overwhelmed on which one to pick, don’t be shy to ask for a free taste test.

Creamy, sweet and delicious. I simply can’t get enough of it. Goodness starts at 45 PHP only!
